Friends of the Lower Appomattox River (FOLAR) works to protect and promote the river’s natural beauty and history for all to enjoy. Part of their mission is developing a regional Greenway-Blueway network of trails and water access along the lower Appomattox River so residents and visitors may hike, bike, or paddle along many miles of the river.
FOLAR conducts river clean-ups and actively encourages awareness, community support, regional tourism, and economic development
JRF has supported FOLAR since 2016 with more than $190,000 in grant funding. JRF also administers the FOLAR Environmental Stewardship Scholarship (established through the Victor and Reiko Liu Charitable Fund) for talented and committed students to develop as community leaders with the skills needed to make positive changes to their future communities.
